US Government Makes Urgent Plea: Get Defective Airbags Fixed

The National Highway Safety Administration issued an urgent plea to millions of vehicle owners with defective recalled Takata airbags to take immediate action and get them replaced. The urgent warning comes because the inflator mechanism in the airbags can rupture, causing shrapnel to fly out when they deploy in crashes, which could injure or kill the driver or passenger.
The defective airbag recalls affect owners of certain Toyota, Honda, Mazda, BMW, Nissan and General Motors vehicles. The recall notices were issued in Florida, Puerto Rico, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, Virgin Islands and Hawaii.
