More than Two Million Air Bags Recalled for New Problem

Certain Toyota, Chrysler and Honda vehicles are being recalled for a second time for faulty airbags that may deploy unexpectedly.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the new recalls include some Acura MDX, Dodge Viper, Jeep Liberty, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Honda Odyssey, Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Corolla, Avalon and Matrix vehicles model made from 2002 to 2004.
In news reports, NHTSA has stated all of the vehicles covered in Saturday’s announcement were already under a previous recall for faulty air bags. The automakers originally tried to fix the defects by partially replacing the electronic control unit, made by TRW Automotive, but that fix wasn’t always successful. The remedy will be a full replacement of the electronic control unit.
If your car is affected, you will receive a notice from your vehicle’s or you may check online by plugging in your vehicle’s identification number (VIN).
More than one million Toyota and Honda vehicles involved in this latest recall are also subject to a separate recall involving defective air bags made by Takata Corp. Those air bags can deploy and rupture with enough force to injure or even kill.
