New Florida Law Bans Interstate Truck Drivers from Texting or Calling on Hand-held Devices

Starting July 1, 2013,  truck drivers and commercial vehicle drivers (bus drivers) will face hefty fines if they talk or text on hand-held devices in Florida.  Not only will the drivers face fines, the companies they work for will also be subject penalties. The new law makes using hand-held devices a primary offense, which means officers can stop drivers who are texting or talking, a stronger violation than the state’s new law which bans texting while driving for all motorists, and is a secondary offense.  However this new law doesn’t restrict the use of Bluetooth or other devices that aren’t hand-held.
