J & J to Settle Consumer Claims for Defective Artificial Hips

Johnson & Johnson has started the process of settling claims based on proof that it sold artificial hips knowing they were defective. According to a December 9 court document, the federal judge in Texas who is charge of the the cases said approximately 3,300 of 10,000 “have settled or are in the process of settling.’’ The terms of the settlement are not being made public.

Johnson & Johnson is scheduled to go to trial to face the claims of five recipients of the defective Pinnacle hip on charges that the company failed to warn customers about the devices’ risks. A 2016 case produced a $1 billion verdict for multiple plaintiffs.
