GM Recalls for Suspension and Safety Belt Trouble

The front-row center seat-belt brackets may not be properly secured to the seat frame. If the seat-belt bracket is not secured, the safety belt may not properly restrain an occupant in the front-row center seat position, increasing the risk of injury in a crash or braking event.

Two new GM recalls, one for suspension corrosion and another for faulty seat belts, add up to almost 840,000 autos called back into dealerships.

Suspension Recall

Safety Recall Report Report 20V-764 reports recalls on Chevy Malibu, Buick Regal and Buick LaCrosse for suspension concerns.

The Defect

These vehicles may have rear toe links that received excessive electrocoating corrosion protection, which could cause coating to become brittle. Over time, the coating may chip away, exposing the metal, making it more susceptible to corrosion. Corrosion may eventually cause the toe link to thin and therefore fracture.

The Remedy

Dealers will replace rear suspension toe links and adjuster fasteners. This recall is anticipated to begin in March 2021. GM will notify owners.

Seatbelt Recall

Safety Recall Report Report 20V-792 reports recalls on Chevrolet Silverado 1500/2500/3500, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500/2500/3500, GMC Yukon XL,  for safety belt concerns.

The Defect

The front-row center seat-belt brackets may not be properly secured to the seat frame. If the seat-belt bracket is not secured, the safety belt may not properly restrain an occupant in the front-row center seat position, increasing the risk of injury in a crash or braking event.

The Remedy

Dealers will inspect center seat-belt bracket attachments then reassemble if necessary. This recall is anticipated to begin in February 2021. GM will notify owners.
