Terrell Hogan partner, Alan Pickert, continues the Terrell Hogan tradition of being active and volunteering his time for the benefit of those in the North Florida community. Alan, who is the Past President of the Jacksonville Bar Association of Lawyers and six time governor of the Jacksonville Board of Governors, was recently selected to be the Vice President of the non profit HEAL Foundation.
The HEAL Foundation (Heal Every Autistic Life), is a non profit organization that was founded here in Jacksonville in 2004 to assist families living with autism. Autism is often a long and difficult road for both the individual struggling with it as well as the individual's family. HEAL issues grants, funds programs and educational studies, helps cover the costs of therapies and provides theatre and surf camps for those on the autism spectrum.

It has come to light that the makers of newer birth control pills contain a synthetic new progestin, Drospirenone, are more likely to cause blood clots than older types of birth control pills.
This lead the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to consider new safety measures regarding these drugs. The increased risk is significant because blood clots can cause heart attacks, strokes and blockages in lungs, (pulmonary embolism PE) or blood vessels, (deep vein thrombosis DVT) which can be deadly.
Yaz, Yasmin (manufactured by Bayer) and generic versions of the drug’s use drospirenone which appears to reduce side effects found in older drugs, including bloating and mood swings. The FDA has stated that evaluating the blood clot risk of birth control drugs is difficult because all hormone-based contraceptive drugs increase the risk of blood clots and this risk can be increased by smoking, obesity or family history (genetic blood clotting defects).

Torn corneas, vision problems follow 'stealth recall' of contact lenses - Due to growing reports of eye problems ranging from blurry vision to torn corneas, the FDA is threatening to issue a public warning about recalled Avaria Toric contact lenses manufactured by CooperVision Inc. and sold widely at stores such as Costco, Wal-Mart and LensCrafters.
The unintended presence of a silicone oil residue on lenses from certain lots of Avaira Aquaform Sphere contact lenses. Symptoms may range from hazy, blurry vision, discomfort to eye injuries requiring medical treatment.

The recall is limited to two specific lots of Kotex Natural Balance Security Unscented Tampons Regular Absorbency manufactured by Kimberly-Clark. According to the FDA, both the 18 count and the 36 count packages contain tampons that were made with raw materials contaminated with Enterobacter sakazakii, a bug that may cause vaginal infections, urinary tract infections, pelvic inflammatory diseases or other health issues.

This recall involves the Toulouse-LapTrec magnetic sketchboard, which has a white plastic writing surface bordered by either a red or brown plastic frame, and has a bean bag type backing. The sketch board has four animal shapes across the top – a rabbit, dog, cat and duck. The multicolored magnetic pen is affixed to the front of the sketchpad. The model number BX1026 (red frame) or BX1027 (brown frame) can be found on a paper wrapper that comes with the product at the time it was purchased.
